A corrupted BIOS could result from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/how-to-update-bios-on-windows\" rel=\"noopener\">BIOS Update<\/a> gone bad, a malware infection, a sudden power outage, over-tweaking, etc. In any of these cases or if you face problems with Windows booting, installing, or loading the Windows operating system, you may want to consider <strong>resetting your BIOS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To those who do not know, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/what-is-bios-in-computers-how-does-it-work\" rel=\"noopener\">BIOS or Basic Input Output System<\/a> is a firmware, stored on a chip on a part of the computer motherboard that is basically a set of instructions that run to help load the operating system. When you turn on the computer, BIOS instructions are initiated, and on completion, the operating system is loaded.<\/p>\n<p>The procedure to restore BIOS default settings is more or less the same computer, may it be a Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Acer, ASUS, Toshiba, Panasonic and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Start your computer, and as soon as you hit the Power On button, keep pressing the <strong>F10<\/strong> key. This works on most laptops, including Dell. On an HP laptop, it could be the <strong>F2<\/strong> key. You will see the keys that work for your hardware during boot in the bottom left or right corner against <em>Boot Options<\/em> or <em>Setup<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-137253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/bios-setup-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/bios-setup-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/bios-setup-1-150x85.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/bios-setup-1-400x227.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You have to use that key to enter <strong>BIOS Setup<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you do this, your BIOS options will load. Remember that when in BIOS, you have to navigate using the arrow keyboard keys.<\/p>\n<h2>How to reset BIOS settings<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-137245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/reset-bios-to-defaults.jpg\" alt=\"reset bios to defaults\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/reset-bios-to-defaults.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/reset-bios-to-defaults-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/reset-bios-to-defaults-400x225.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can simply hit the <strong>F9<\/strong> key to display a blue screen that says <em>Load Setup defaults<\/em>? Clicking on <em>Yes<\/em> will restore the default BIOS settings. On my <strong>Dell laptop<\/strong>, under the <strong>Security tab<\/strong>, I could also see an entry &#8211; <strong>Restore Security settings to Factory Defaults<\/strong>. If you see it, you could use this option too. Select it using the arrow keys and hit Enter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FIX<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/bios-power-on-self-test-post-errors\">BIOS Power-On Self-Test (POST) errors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Restore BIOS to default values<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-137248\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/restore-default-bios-settings.jpg\" alt=\"restore default bios settings\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/restore-default-bios-settings.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/restore-default-bios-settings-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thewindowsclub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/restore-default-bios-settings-400x224.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On my <strong>HP laptop<\/strong>, I had to press <strong>F2<\/strong> to boot to BIOS setup options. Once here, under the Exit tab, I could see a <strong>Load Setup Defaults<\/strong> options. You could select it using the arrow keys and hit Enter. Or you could simply hit the <strong>F9<\/strong> key to display a white screen that says <em>Load default configuration now<\/em>?
