I tried 4 others and only one worked out of the box and it was marginal concerning setup guidance and tech support. Connectify worked first time, had hand holding setup, and tech support (via a knowledge base and FAQs) was far better than any other I looked at. Yes it isn’t free but a trial is available and a promotion is available (as of 1/7/18) for $10.49 or $5.99 for the 2018 version (with updates to the end of year).

However, even Connectify doesn’t address the problem of forcing the hotspot to use the 5 GHz band (for those dual band capable). Anyone know of a product or procedure to get a 5 GHz hotspot?
